While the Broomfield post office was opened in 1886, and the city was incorporated in 1961, not until 2001 was the county of Broomfield created, (making it the 64th and most recently established county in Colorado). This is good news for the residents of Broomfield, because had the county not been established, they would be subject to four differing county onsite wastewater treatment system regulations (Adams, Boulder, Jefferson, and Weld).
Broomfield is instead unified under a single county regulation, that shares elements of the regulations of its surrounding counties, but isn’t identical to any of them.
